Institute of vocational education is an important element of the nation’s education initiative. In order for Vocational Education to play its part effectively in the changing national context and for India to enjoy the fruits of the demographic dividend, there is an urgent need to redefine the critical elements of imparting vocational education and training to make them flexible, contemporary, relevant, inclusive and creative.

Currently known as career and technical education, technical and vocational education and training it prepares people for specific trades, crafts and careers at various levels from a trade, craft, technician or a high professional practitioner position in careers.

In our country, the dropout rate after primary schools is high, perhaps due to economic and cultural reasons. Hence, it is important that an option be provided for locally relevant education to such learners.
